Research Proposal
Hyperspectral Imaging in Wearable Devices & Healthcare

One of the courses I completed at Northeastern was an advanced writing course geared toward technical fields. The end goal of the class was to produce a written piece demonstrating one's technical writing skills and capabilities. Influenced by the work I was completing on co-op at the time, I decided to write a research proposal for an expert-level audience focused on the potential of using hyperspectral imaging in consumer wearable devices.

I faced some challenges during the writing process for this piece. I chose a very complex topic for my research proposal that I had very little experience with, so I needed to gather a lot of background information so that I am able to demonstrate a high-level of understanding to my audience.

I also changed the scope of the proposal. I initially focused on the application of hyperspectral imaging in surgical equipment. As I began writing and analyzing my sources, however, I decided to shift the subject to address its potential in health wearables since I believed that it would be a more impactful piece and introduce a different perspective.

By the end of the course, I produced an expert-level research proposal and presented it to my professor and class. I was proud of the final written proposal, received positive feedback from both my peers and professor, and strengthened my technical writing and research skills.
